Ground Water Protection Division Announces Online Application and Payment Capabilities

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Division of Ground Water Protection recently implemented new online capabilities, making it easier than ever for Tennesseans to apply and pay for permitting services related to septic system installation and repair and existing system inspections.

Online applications may be submitted for new conventional system construction, system modification, system repair, alternative system construction and inspection letters. Online payment transactions for these services are through a credit or debit card.

The Division of Ground Water Protection administers the subsurface sewage disposal system program for the state of Tennessee. This program is responsible for issuing permits in support of on-site wastewater disposal and implementing the state’s subsurface sewage disposal system installer and pumper programs. The division also provides inspection services for existing subsurface sewage disposal systems. Existing system inspections are often conducted in support of real estate transactions and home refinancing. The division’s primary goal is to regulate on-site wastewater disposal in a manner that is protective of Tennessee’s ground water, while protecting the health and welfare of the public.
